pixelKeyline Design (R) - Holistic Management (R), Story in March 2009 issue of ACRES USA Magazine
Posted by rapurdy on Thursday, March 05, 2009 - 11:33 AM

ElysianIdealsMy two very good friends Abe Collins and Darren Doherty have an excellent article on page 16 of the March 2009 issue of "Acres USA Magazine", entitled "Keyline Design, Mark IV"

This article discuses the comprehensive design elements involved in Keyline Design (R) combined with Holistic Management (R), and the planning strategies developed from the works of both Allan Yeomans and Allan Savory, that can help your farm harvest more rainwater, store more carbon, and perhaps most important, build new topsoil.

The article is a summary of what the 60 year old Keyline Design elements are / or can be - involved in development practice of landscapes and suggests when coupled with Holistic Management, the sum becomes a powerful naturally driven mechanism to enhance sustainable intentions upon ones farm landscape using water. I encourage everyone to obtain a copy of the article and give it a read.

"The Elysian Fields and Pasture Project" incorporates both these Keyline and Holistic Management principles as well as many in-house cutting edge techniques and methods of our own design - and we are working on more! If any of these methods interest you or you would like to know more, simply give us a call.

Be safe. Sincerely,

Royal A. Purdy

YeomansPlowCoNotice from Ken Yeomans Keyline Designs,

The latest edition of "Water for Every Farm – Yeomans Keyline Plan" is now being printed in the USA. It is available at the Amazon.com website -or- A. H. Tuttle and Company has several copies of this latest title on hand in its library for customers and interested persons.

This is the 2008 - 4th edition of this historic title and the first one printed outside Australia. It has some additional images, Google map coordinates to some of the project sites and wherever possible an upgrade of all other images to 300dpi.

I have viewed a copy and it is by far the most readable and best of Ken Yeomans title editions so far!

Ken Yeomans notes that the book is also available at Amazon.com and at the moment they are discounting the total book price (US$49.95) and including postage within the USA in the sale price.

Enjoy this important - highly recommended title soon!

Be safe. Sincerely,

Royal A. Purdy

pixelYeomans Keyline Plow Ordering - Shipping
Posted by rapurdy on Friday, December 28, 2007 - 02:01 AM

pixel
pixel
YeomansPlowCoWe promised to post some reoccurring - similar theme items and updates to this website regarding questions clients are having when ordering of their Yeoman's Keyline plows, etc..

Shanks and spare perishable members such as Wombat Points, Splitter blades, etc. will be in stock (firstly to plow customers); ..these are due to be shipped with the first shipping container of plows arriving to New York State. All prior whole plow deliveries are already scheduled to be going directly to plow customers.

We expect that for sometime, some supplies may become limited or erratic in availability as all spares will go first to plow owners, restocking and then to parties from whom we have received prior valid purchase orders. If you are certain you will be requiring plow shanks this coming season, we will need a valid written purchase order in hand before ordering for you, this will help guaranty you access to your desired items. We will announce to declared interested folks when these events and probable cut-off dates are most likely to occur. Please let us know if you would welcome further notices and updates.

Please be aware, early-bird ordering will be closing very soon; additionally, the Yeomans Plow, factory, AU., has again advised when ordering of co-mingled plow types and articles, to allow sufficient lead time(s) for events to occur. Fabrication, Ocean freight, scheduling and logistic requirements; Set up; etc....pretty soon it's going to be Labor Day 2008, ready to plow.. ready or not.

As of this post, we do have some odd Yeoman's fixture parts and one or two after market - retro-fit plow frames in stock. These frames are used articles, third party brand plows (10' and 11' foot) ready for necessary modifications and conversion. Both have depth control solutions on suitable plow frames intended for large tractors in the 100 - 140+ HP range.

Lastly, Clear Choice (c) - Elysian (c) - We have posted some very new Pasture Services topic links within the left margin of this web-page with links to our Yeoman's Keyline Plow "Red Book" and others, please check them out. We have temporally installed also a web-blog link instead of the older discussion board of years past as the later presented some spam challenges. All past Innovative Pasture Discussions have been archived for later use.

Again, we are extremely busy as most of you are as well. Please drop us a note back and let us know if you have any questions.

Be safe. Sincerely,

Pasture_SolutionsKeyline Design: Water and New Topsoil for Every Farm

October 29 and 30, 2007

Instructed by Darren Doherty, Principal of Australia Felix and accomplished Keyline landscape designer.

Location: Cimarron Farm, St. Albans, Vermont. This farm is currently building a Keyline Flood Flow irrigation system, so course theory will be backed up by on-the-land examples.

This two day workshop with will cover the basics of Keyline farm design and Keyline topsoil formation. In practice around the world for over fifty years, the Keyline Plan is farm and city design based on the water shapes of the land. The Keyline Plan enables fast flood irrigation of flat and hilly land. Keyline topsoil formation involves using a subsoiler plow on pasture land in combination with planned grazing and irrigation or rainfall to rapidly convert subsoil to topsoil. Theory and practical subsoiling and landscape construction will be covered.

Cost: $250. Lunches, refreshments and educational materials will be provided. Free to member Carbon Farmers of America.

Pre-registration and deposit are required. To register, or for more information, please contact Abe Collins at (802) 527-2913 or abe@carbonfarmersofamerica.com

Pasture_SolutionsA Pasture Walk with Darren Doherty

Folks,

Elysian ©, Sustainable High Tensile - A. H. Tuttle and Company is hosting a Pasture Walk highlighting “Keyline” contoured landscaping and absorption fertility. Abe Collins gave me the heads up about Keyline concepts as it relates to pasture response beginning in 2005.

In June of this year I attended a 6-day long Keyline Design seminar by lecturer Darren Doherty from Australia on a world tour. He is returning this fall September 14th – 16th to the Finger Lakes area to give a Pasture Walk discussion in Bloomfield, NY. and a condensed two-day Keyline seminar in Canandaigua NY. entitled “Keyline Design & Practices” with Darren Doherty”, and lectures will be at the Community College of the Finger Lakes campus lecture hall, as he travels back across the U.S.

I intended to get Abe Collins here too for the three day event, as he is having Darren lecture in late October in Vermont on the same topic, but Abe has indicated he is unable to attend.

The one and two-day events will start Friday, September 14th at 11:30am with the Pasture Walk in Bloomfield at the Oliver and Andrea Scott’s Buffalo and Scottish Highlander Grazing Farm involving an afternoon Pasture Walk. Said pasture walk would precede the lecture by one day and derive two separate groups of interest; one to attend the Pasture Walk only and the others being able to attend both the Pasture Walk and the weekend lecture with fee of $250.00; of coarse we invite all, if at all possible, to attend both!

We will have a functional genuine Yeomans shank plow at the pasture walk. The walk to be held at the grazing farm of Oliver and Andrea Scott, Wild Side Ranch LLC, 8675 Taft Road, Bloomfield, NY. 14469; (15 miles West of Canandaigua and 9 miles East of Rt 390 and Rt 5+20 intersection, and One mile South of State Rt. 5 & 20 on Conn Road (one mile) to Taft; watch for signs) The draw of interest will be the Keyline Demo on sod at a large Bison - Buffalo and Scottish Highlander herd operation with a New York State inspected meat plant on the farm.

The 2-day College venue has a full elevated lecture hall, audio visual for the available YouTube digital videos (Google search “Yeomans Keyline Plow” video), etc. Paid food and lodging are close by. We intend also to have a limited number of scholarships cover some attendees $250.00 fee’s with most meals (other than three lunches) and all lodging on their own at this stage of the planning.

Be safe. Sincerely
